Brief CV for Dr. Bernd Jürgen Schneider

Dr. Bernd Jürgen Schneider was born in Biberach/Riss on 9 November 1956. After leaving school and doing his national service, he studied law and public administration at Mannheim, Heidelberg and Speyer Universities. After sitting the 1st and 2nd state law examinations, and obtaining a master’s degree in public administration, from 1986 to 1989 Dr. Schneider headed the Legal Department of Dormagen Town Council. This was followed by a spell as a parliamentary advisor to the Christian Democrats in the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia, finishing as a consultant to the party’s floor leader. Since 1 June 1992, Dr. Schneider has worked for the North Rhine-Westphalia Local Authorities Confederation, initially as a Deputy Manager, then from 1 December 1994 as a Manager, with responsibility for finances and municipal enterprises, schools, culture and sport. Since 1 December 2002, Dr. Schneider has been General Manager of the North Rhine-Westphalia Local Authorities Confederation. On 29 June 2009, he was elected unanimously for a second eight-year term of office, beginning on 1 December 2010.

Dr. Schneider is married and has two children.
